Nordic Christmas
We absolutely love the continuing trend in 2012 for the 'Nordic' Christmas look. The Scandinavian inspired theme creates a beautiful mix of creams, whites, silver, gold and reds, usually simple and understated with lots of nature inspired elements. It feels fresh and yet cosy in a way that a simply 'modern' style doesn't quite achieve.
When we talk about Scandinavia we are really referring to the countries of Denmark, Norway and Sweden and use it as a cultural term reflecting their peoples associated language and cultures rather than a geographical term. Sometimes Scandinavia is also taken to include Iceland and Finland because of their historical association with the Scandinavian countries, however in Scandinavia itself this may be considered inaccurate, the term Nordic countries would actually reflect this larger group.
Simplicity and understatement is most definitely the key to a true Nordic style theme, nothing too flashy, certainly not an abundance of garish fairy lights, the use of candlelight being far more appropriate to this style.
These antique glass t-light holders for example would look equally fitting filled with rustic winter twigs!
Here is a stunning example of Nordic style, the beautiful red and white tree decorations mixed with the natural fibres of handknitted stockings and the use of beautiful candle and t-light holders bringing warmth and light into the theme.
